Tham gia phong trào thư pháp quốc ngữ tại Tp.HCM từ năm 2000. Xuất thân là một người vốn đam mê nghệ thuật truyền thống, đã có nhiều giải thưởng trong lĩnh vực sưu tập tem cũng như thư pháp. Thanh Hải đã tổ chức và thực hiện thành công rất nhiều cuộc triển lãm cá nhân cũng như tập thể, nhóm tác giả, CLB tại NVH.Thanh Niên ; Các cuộc triển lãm đều được tổ chức chính quy và bài bản theo tiêu chuẩn NVH, và được rất nhiều sự đồng tình của người thưởng ngoạn. Anh đã giới thiệu thư pháp chữ Việt rộng rãi khắp mọi tầng lớp, nhất là môi trường sinh viên.
Thanh Hải đã có nhiều công sức nghiên cứu phát huy thú chơi chữ nghệ thuật cũng như có nhiều công lao đóng góp cho phong trào thư pháp thành phố, như sáng lập CLB Thư họa Kiến văn Trường ĐH Văn Lang, có công sáng lập CLB Thư pháp Nét Việt Nhà Văn hóa Thanh Niên, đào tạo và xây dựng được nhóm tác giả thư pháp Nét Việt (Netviet calligraphers group) và là người đề xuất sáng lập Phố Ông Đồ đầu tiên hoạt động theo bài bản (xuân Đinh Hợi năm 2007) và được tổ chức định kỳ hàng năm tại NVH.Thanh Niên TP.HCM
